We built a deck to a Wilmette house — structure, flashing, railings, and finish, not a kit. Porch fixtures on proper outdoor boxes are the same licensed electrician. Handyman work is a large part of what neighbors ask for here: doors that close square, hardware, the list on the fridge.

Older Wilmette houses

Wilmette stock is often older — and better for it, if the work respects the house. Plaster, original trim, and walls that do not want a fishing tape. We hang doors that close square and update lighting without tearing the plaster to pieces when the house will not take it.

A deck that traps water against the siding, or a ledger without flashing, is the kind of work we are called to undo. Building it to the house is the point.

Wilmette permits

The Village of Wilmette wants decks permitted — setbacks, railings, and how the deck attaches to the house. Service upgrades, EV chargers, and many electrical additions are inspected too. Community Development handles residential permits. We pull the permit when the job needs one.
